The Education Association with a Voice in Nashville

Professional Educators of Tennessee (PET) takes its role in advocacy for public educators and education policy very seriously. Our association’s emphasis on active participation, individual action, and collective effort demonstrates a comprehensive approach to ensuring educators’ voices are heard and respected in the decision-making processes that impact their profession.

By empowering educators to engage with lawmakers through various means such as phone calls, emails, meetings, and discussions, PET promotes the idea that change is brought about by those who actively participate and voice their opinions. The emphasis on sharing personal stories to humanize the impact of policy decisions is a powerful way to connect policymakers with the real-world effects of their choices, particularly highlighting the positive influence educators have on students’ lives and communities.

PET’s recognition of the diverse ways in which members can contribute to advocacy highlights an inclusive approach that values each member’s strengths and capabilities. By providing guidance on engaging with elected representatives, the organization ensures that its members are equipped with the tools and knowledge to effectively advocate for their profession and students.

In addition, we monitor developments in education policy, advocating for beneficial legislation and actively engaging with lawmakers underscores the association’s commitment to being well-informed, proactive, and influential in shaping education policy. By being the eyes, ears, and voice at the State Capitol, PET demonstrates a dedication to representing the interests of educators and students in Tennessee.

Overall, PET’s multifaceted approach to advocacy, encompassing collaboration, individual action, storytelling, engagement with lawmakers, and proactive monitoring, showcases a comprehensive strategy to ensure educators’ perspectives are considered when shaping education policies for the betterment of both educators and students.
